Heyyy, so this is a more important announcement than usual…
I’ve mentioned in the past that i might do this, and indeed the time has come: i’m pleased/nervous/pleased to announce that in the future, Subnormality will be (crowd)funded via Patreon.

This comic strip has always been something i’ve funded by doing other work (ad-free as it is), but as the comix get longer and the other work gets otherer i’ve ironically had less time to work on the stuff that’s most important to me. If the comix can pay their own way, that would change (things that would NOT change: walls of text, me at, and the content and format of the website in general. I just want to do less of the stuff that isn’t the above) . Please click through for the full announcement (and an explanation of what Patreon is, for those unfamiliar), and thank you x999999999 to the 99th for listening, and for reading, and if you have any questions at all then please let me know in the comments.

with non-creepy love and much respect,

Hi, new comic up. Something shorter while you wait for something longer…

I have a book out, for anyone interested— i know i’ve been low-key about it maybe, but that’s just because i’m incapable of the kind of professional-type publicizing and whatnot that one expects of hugely grateful creators in the realm of publishing. Honestly, it’s a pretty fun little book that’s more about finding all the other amusing shit in there than it is about the title character or whatever, and you’ll almost certainly¬†like it, so thanks for checking it out. Amazon has a preview of a few pages, and this cracked article kind of previews the art style as well.

And if you missed it, for fuck’s sake check out the PHG/Sphynx art that LOVESYCK/LOVELYSS comics man Alexis Flower done created over here. Buy it on a shirt, like i just did, ’cause it’s Mega. And check out his site as well for the rare combination of art that is good and writing that also is good.

When i was a kid i loved garfield comics; now i love this.

hurrah! And as always, thanks for reading,

The Making Of

January 27, 2014

Hey, so this illustration project i’m working on will be over soon, and as fun as it is to pay the bills it of course still sucks to be away from y’all for so long. Things will resume around here in February anyway, and thanks again for waiting, i know it’s been kind of excessive….

In the meantime… to celebrate the 7th anniversary of The Comix i though i’d post for you a “making of” kinda deal that i put together a couple years ago but held back for the right time. Which is now i think, so check out this link this link right here this one, and keep checking back and clicking “next” as i’ll be adding another page in the series every day for the next little while (there are eight pages in total). Short version: i think of ideas and then draw and color them. Long version: stay tuned..!

apologies for the wait

December 8, 2013

Hi, sorry for the great big vats of Nothing lately. After spending the summer imploding creatively and then sort of rediscovering my motivations, i’m in a way better place creatively now… which has coincided with a fairly major book illustration opportunity that’s come my way in the intervening months. If it’s not one thing it’s another, but the good news is that things are good here presently and to be able to even be here as a working artist saying this is an ongoing honor and privilege. Just want to say thanks for always being so patient– i know the randomness of the freelance life is shitty in terms of comix scheduling, but despite basically being shackled to my desk until, oh, March or so doing book illustrations, i still have a comic i want to somehow get to you before xmas, and shall try like hell to do so.

In the meantime, please accept a link¬†(zooming via mousewheel or the icons at the bottom) to some crazy, ill-conceived unpublished thing i did a while back– one of those ideas where my imagination is way bigger than my free time. I had the idea to do remixes of existing comix basically (b-sides too…), and this one i’ve linked to is like the stupidly high-res edition of comic #2. If i had an infinite amount of time i’d probably do stuff like this all the time, i like the idea of remixing comix like you’d remix songs, but for now this and a couple other unpublished ones’ll have to do. Watch out for that third panel, it’s a doozy…

Oh, and when you’re in there keep an eye out for the Secret URL!! It’s pretty easy to find actually. Bonuses therein…

And seriously, thanks again for your patience, i know it sucks to have to wait but it’s for reasons that mean i’m paying the rent at least and hurrah for that. Comix as soon as possible, so stay tuned.

Mobile Devices

September 9, 2013

Hey, so if you’re like a lot of people and smartphone/tablet/etc. is your primary internet then i have good news for you in that i’m actually trying to take measures to make the comix readable for such mobile devices. Starting now you can check out subnormality over at a site called Tapastic–it’s a new-ish webcomics site with an an app for both iphone and android, as well as a mobile site, and i’m posting as many comix over there as possible in a sliced-up format more suitable for reading on mobile internet.

Not every comic’s gonna work of course (i’m looking at you, floor plan of the mind…), so the main site will always be the only place to see everything, but now you can at least read most of the comix properly if a smartphone’s your only connection to the internet (and i know it is for an increasing percentage of people). Most of comics #1-110 are up now, and the rest will follow gradually. Check it out, and enjoy being able to read the comix with a whole lot less horizontal scrolling…

New comic, finally! Translation assistance from Tom Fummo and Google Translate.

Comix previously seen over at (as well as a few b-sides) are now also available over in these parts in the Abnormality section. There’s a link on the main subnormality page now as well!

This could be important: join me over on the new subnormality facebook page! JOIN ME.

February 12, 2013

Heyy, comix return. And dude here was previously seen in comix 79 and 196, for anyone wondering.

Back again asap. The whole comix every 3-4 weeks thing has been lame, i know– i’m gonna see what i can do about that. Got stories need tellin’.

Thanks to and the Center For Cartoon Studies for bringing some badly-needed attention to webcomics by announcing a new comics prize that features an equal category for online comix alongside the traditional print stuff. They’ve nominated some really good stuff too (and me). I’d vote for Boulet if i were voting– dude has skills.

The new comic over at Akimbo is a fine thing too. This medium got wheels.

Store Update

October 20, 2012

YESSS! So the store’s been updated with a bunch of new prints for y’all: the new Floor Plan of the Mind comic’s in there, as are the three comix before that, plus there’s now a new “Other” section where you’ll find prints that aren’t Subnormality comix. Right now you’ll find in there a bunch of the Cracked comix, plus a superfantastico new print of the entire Subnormality cast that you might enjoy (you can preview it here). The full list of all available prints is right here, and it features thumbnails of all of them so you can see the layout of various comix when reformatted for print (it looks messed up in Internet Explorer, but i’m gradually fixing that). Good times.

And thanks to everyone out there for buying prints! I know you don’t do it as a favor to me, but i just generally appreciate the support as it’s a big part of what income i bring in. And there are a few MegaHeroes out there who i see buying like seven or twelve prints at a time, which is happily awesome, so cheers to anyone who’s bought even one and i hope you’ll like the new offerings!

And yeah, i know people would like to be able to buy a book as well. I solemnly swear to make that my Big Project for 2013! To pioneer the technique of making a book with 150 different page sizes. TO TEST THE UNKNOWN

Floor Plan

October 12, 2012

Okay, aaand we’re back. This ain’t perfect obviously, but i, uh, ran out of pixels. Like it says on the home page, i’ve also set up an experimental Thing where you can peruse a larger and zoom-in-able version of the comic. Just use your mouse and mousewheel to navigate around with ease. I know a lot of people wish my tiny, horrible writing was otherwise, so this is one way of addressing that whole thing (as i said i would. PROMISE KEPT). Won’t be necessary for every comic, but some of them for sure. Let me know what you think in the comments!

thanks for reading,

new comic. plus: ask me anything

August 5, 2012

Heya, new comic for you, kind of a short one for once.

Also, i’m doing an “Ask Me Anything” (which is exactly what it sounds like, if you’re unfamiliar) over at today (aug. 5th), so look for me there if you have any questions about anything to do with subnormality or webcomix in general. I mean you’re absolutely welcome to ask me anything via email any day of the year, but if you want a more timely reply then come on by today.

thanks for reading,
