I donยดt get it, I have fever and canยดt focus my mind.

  2. nasty nate Says:

Demon-lady seems like a nice girl, but I’d hate to think what her vagina would do to my penis. Plus when you factor in the whole long distance thing, you know… I guess it’s just not meant to be.

  3. Looks exactly like my first website date…

  4. J Says:

Neither did I! but I think Im just kinda dumb.

  5. LafinJack Says:

And stay away from that coat.

  6. Michael Ezra Says:

I love it. A solid return to form after last week’s, which wasn’t among your best.

Great to see the return of the demonesss from The Customer from Hell

  7. JT Wilson Says:

Really nice dialogue, top notch art and colouring. The flow of the dialogue is very very pleasing.

I reaaally like the concept of their conversation and the world she is describing Love the details. You always manage to make these crazy scenarios be discussed calmly as if it’s the most normal thing in the world (dating a demon and said demon having dating problems in the underworld and resorting to lesbianism, uh, sorry, gobbling vagina, had gotten boring.)

She is also one sexy demon, and I appreciate the fact that she has a purse ๐Ÿ˜€ Poor picture snapper….
Her hands are really well done, very pleasing to look at, especially the 2nd panel.

When are you going to publish these, Winston? On paper? When I can buy it and give you money? Because I totally would.

Thanks again for a highly entertaining comic. This coming from a professional ‘artist’, Lord knows how you do it every week…wonderful!

  8. JT Wilson Says:

Also nice to see ol’ Brownhair. PINK!!

  9. JT Wilson Says:

Okay, okay, okay. I was not going to make a negative comment because I think you’re just the bee’s knees, but I respect you work, talent and intellect tremendously and expect my friends to tell me when something’s NOT great so I can perhaps make it better (or decide they’re full of shit, it’s up to me, but at least I’ll have the option rather than have illegitimate sunshine be blasted up my ass)……

…so I didn’t think the ending was all that great. I think it’s funny and her expression is priceless (i’ll start smoking that cigarette if it makes that same smoke skull for me too)
…… Unless I just don’t get it. There, I said it.

On the other hand though, interesting point raised about their being an emphasis on the differences rather than focusing on the similarities. I am of the belief that our brains are wired fundamentally different, and its not some kind of nature vs nurture thing, where men and women experience and deal with things fundamentally different. My girlfriend on the other hand contends that male and female brains are the same. Or something along those lines. I should really ask her what exactly she meant.

Honest, I was gonna say something smart. But then the train with the rails and the embankment and the duct tape…oooh shiny…

    …thanks anyway ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. tulio Says:

ohhh, ok, I didnยดt read last line of frames.

  11. Sili Says:

    I love that stole.

  12. bachterman Says:

    vaginas….
    wha?

  13. RA Says:

I don’t get the condiment metaphors. Somebody please explain

  14. Cheers?
    Rubbish?

    Is the demoness british? ๐Ÿ˜€

I wonder if you’re one of those people who find the british accent sexy. I never undestood that, myself.

    Anyway, about the comic.
I too agree about the flow of the conversation and the quality of the art. Definitely one of your best.
Personally I would have had them sharing a bile milk-shake or eating a brain cake.

    Hmm.
    Bain cake.

STOP TANTALISING ME WITH FRESH CANNIBAL TREATS, ROWNTREE!!!

    Yours,
    Trenino

  15. Reignonyourparade Says:

The leave comment link isn’t working for me right now.
    Great comic though.

  16. Lew Basnight Says:

“…the mental dynamics of a rubber helicopter.”

    HA ha ha excellent.

  17. JT Wilson: Please don’t hesitate to leave negative comments! You’re quite right in that the ending isn’t the strongest part of the strip, but in this case i was fine with that as for me the main point of the comic was elsewhere (and usually is). Given another six months i’m sure i could have come up with a really cracking punchline, but i’m usually not motivated by punchlines, so if one hasn’t shown up by the time the ship’s ready to go then i sail without it. As for a book, i’d love to, and it’s definitely in the Grand Strategy. Just need to attract a publisher, ’cause i’m not interested in doing the stocking and shipping myself.

RA: The paired condiments visualize the gender relationships mentioned in their respective panels. Relish = devil woman, etc.

Reignonyourparade: Yeah, i’ve fixed that now, so thanks for the info.

  18. Ayn Rand's Queef Says:

I can’t believe nobody’s noticed the Doom referance! Insta win! The killer fur jacket was also a nice touch as well.

  19. Michael Ezra Says:

Winston, if you put out a book I’ll definitely (and joyfully) buy it. You might want to try a publisher that specializes in affordable, small-run comic-book trade paperbacks, such as TopatoCo or Ka-Blam. Both come well recommended by webcartoonists with moderate-to-large audiences. Good luck!

Trenino: Yeah, I get a British vibe from the demoness too. In her previous appearance (“The Customer from Hell,”) she calls the store clerk “matey.”

  20. Writer Says:

    @ WRowntree

Thanks for the joke, although I have no idea why I’m laughing. I don’t get it.

    @ Ayn Rand

    What Doom reference?

  21. George Says:

So if the men of hell are just creatures with enormous penises and no emotional depth, does that mean that Tommy Lee is really just some supernatural being. No wonder he formed Motley Crue.

  22. George Says:

By the way, that bisexual demon is the sexiest character ever, in every sense of the word. A lot of writers, especially comic writers, think gigantic tits and skimpy outfits are all that’s sexy. And while that’s hot, it’s not sexy.

Sexy is a quality only good writers can handle, and no lack of layers, or breasts so large they have their own gravitational pull can turn a hot character into a sexy character.

  23. George Says:

I also like how that guy is looking at the relish and mustard bottles even while he’s discussing the nature of humanity, the “gobbling vagina’s” comment really sent his mind off into another place.

For those wondering, it’s actually quite simple when you think about it, one of those little details you don’t notice at first, but it makes the comic better with subsequent views:

    Ketchup = male demons
Relish & Mustard = girl deamons
    Salt & Pepper = humanity

  24. Ayn Rand's Queef Says:

    @ Writer

The original Doom had 2 episodes called “knee deep in the dead” “the shores of hell” and a bonus one called “thy flesh consumed”. Now with those 3 phrases in mind notice that the guy mentions all three of them in the THIRD panel no less!

Mr. Winston for your creative (possibly nerdy) genius, I applaud thee!

    @ George

The demonic condiments?! That sounds like a really bad acid trip…

  25. Dusty668 Says:

He could be in for a helluva time!

  26. Raishi Says:

I just found Subnormality yesterday, when someone liked the “Weird” strip from a few weeks back on their Livejournal, and ended up spending most of my work time yesterday afternoon and today reading it from beginning to today’s strip. So many I wanted to comment on along the way, but it felt a little pointless commenting on a strip that the conversation over had died a year ago.

So, I’ll just have to sum up three years worth of comments in one.

The insight, humor, wisdom, and gift for words shown in this comic is truly unmatched.

If they ever create the award, you have my nomination for “Most Awesome Person Ever.” ^^

  27. Nick Says:

Very nice. The demoness reminds me a lot of Jeremy from Captain Estar. Another great mix of the vastly socially insightful and absolutely nutty.

On an unforgivably pernickety nitpicking note (that you probably already know about) there’s a small fill missing in the second panel. I only mention it as the attention to detail in Subnormality is so great.

  28. Ayn Rand’s Queef: Good catch on the ultra-nerdy Doom reference. And as for your username, i don’t know whether to laugh or vomit. Perhaps both.. ha ha hauuuughhhh

Raishi: I’m pretty sure teddy roosevelt was the most awesome person ever, but i appreciate the sentiment. I don’t know if i could deliver a 90-minute speech directly after being shot.

Nick: Thanks for pointing out the missed fill, i’ve gone ahead and fixed it. I hate it when that happens…

  29. XenoVega Says:

I hope they get it on.

  30. NoVan Says:

Ha, excellent. Hey, WR, I’m sorry I was a troll last week, because I wouldn’t keep coming back here if it wasn’t so good. I know you put a lot of effort into these comics, for free, so thanks. I mean damn – smoking-hot demon women; what else do you need? Plus, the mention of Formerly Pink-Haired Girl was very well-played.

  31. Nathan Wilson Says:

I love the reference to your recent “World’s worst dating service” And the guy’s been with that service for 5 years? I guess this is his 6 orgasm moment.

And, wow, good catch with the condiment metaphors George, That really helped me enjoy this that much more. Another plus, this was my birthday comic! I turned 25.

  32. Thomas Says:

@Trenino: I was thinking the same thing when I read the words “rubbish” and “cheers”.

Damn, now I’m imagining her speaking like Jane Leeves on Frasier. I’d almost say “rowr” if it weren’t for the pitcher of bile *gag* *retch*

  33. @Thomas : you share my true name AND my opinion???

this site is riddled with uncanny and disturbing coincidences.

    But Jane Leeves?
    I was thinking Elizabeth Hurley.
And who cares about the bile, what’s a bit of bile between friends?
    ๐Ÿ˜€

  34. Ayn Rand's Queef Says:

When I first read this I thought that the bile was being extracted from the poor sucker sitting behind the demoness. What? Me a sadist? Naah..
Oh and despite being English I didn’t spot the English vibe on the demoness, I thought she sounded like Louis from Family Guy.

  35. Matthew Abel Says:

I wish you would write a book. Some of these comic ideas could use even more words than you give them – love this one.

  36. Writer Says:

“Now with those 3 phrases in mind notice that the guy mentions all three of them in the THIRD panel no less!”

OH FFS HOW DID I MISS THAT.

Wow… I should have caught on that in a nanosecond. Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. Thomas Says:

@Trenino: it looks like our true name has fallen out of favor somewhat. It used to be in the top 5 of most common names, only a few decades ago. But, still, look on the bright side: I have never had to explain to anyone how to spell my name. Apparently it’s still common enough that people know about the “h”.

Back on topic: hmm, yes, Elizabeth Hurley, excellent choice. Really, really excellent, in fact. Excellent enough to make me forget about the bile. Now excuse me for a second while I take care of something. ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. moaem Says:

As humans, I think we tend to look for differences rather than similarities because we already know about the similarities. Differences happen once, similarities happen twice, and we would rather know the unknown first, even relatively.

  39. markps2 Says:

Sex and eating is what the monkeys are here for. And that people fault the male monkeys for following their testosterone programming is a crock, because if you don’t got testicles you don’t like boobs/vagina’s (in general).

  40. Yuri Says:

.. the phrase ‘gobbling vaginas’ is one that sticks though, can’t blame the poor guy. I’m a lesbian and that phrase is just derailing my entire brain at the moment. Kudos. haha.

  41. Goropir Says:

Wonderful comic, nicely and perfectly set in the Subnormality! universe. Applauses!
Here’s my attempt to catch something – the earring’s triskelion – an allusion to some Roissy-like BDSM or to Paganism ?

  42. arnday Says:

Mate, im loving this hell-lady character. Can we have more of her like sphinx? I like the whole, frank and very to the point sort of character thing youve got here.

  43. jdanryan Says:

I second the calls above for more demon lady. In fact, isn’t the server the same young lady we see lose her soul in “The Service”? If she and the Sphynx can keep popping up, why not her?

Hell, I’d love to see the demon and the Shpynx have a conversation some time. I can imagine it’d be a trip to write, which makes for a better reason to do it than just fan service…

  44. Leak Says:

@jdanryan: The server is the same young lady known as “ex-pink haired girl” that’s been all over the strip…

  45. caleb Says:

Great now you got me thinking about Doom and I have got that music from level 1 stuck in my head.

    Great Comic!

  46. fanmos Says:

I would like to see also Mayo next time… ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. Writer Says:

    Very important question…

Gobbling… verb or adjective? She’s tired of green apples or she’s tired of eating apples?

This’ll totally change my vision of her past dates. ๐Ÿ™‚

  48. Da Says:

Aw, such a fun premise I was disappointed that the punchline was “Hur hur men love lesbians and are distracted by sex.” I did like the murderous fur coat though.

  49. e Says:

Ridiculously, I can’t spot the comma/apostrophe thing in panel seven. I read through both speech bubbles twice, slowly.

  50. abby Says:

    yeah(!) for bisexual hell women.

  51. Ethereal Says:

I just love that Doom reference in the third panel. It made my day ๐Ÿ™‚

  52. TheoX Says:

I’ve read this comic about 3 times but this is the first time I noticed “Knee Deep in the Dead”, “Shores of Hell”, and something about consuming flesh in it! Came to the comments and noticed I wasn’t the first one… oh well! Like the commenter above, it made my day. ๐Ÿ˜›

  53. Paul Blart Says:

Holy shit, your comics are good but sometimes it’s just way too much text. You expect too much from us mere humans.

  54. hilarious! in the end, when it comes down to it, the vagina rules, no matter what realm it’s origin is!

  55. Garik Says:

Your ability to portray a scene and take the reader in,
to a degree where I can almost smell the bile and feel like it’s me who’s trying to keep the pace with a girl out of my league, is always inspiring.
this really made my night, thanks!

  56. Bramble Says:

Love your comics. But, I just have one small request. Could you increase the text size so that it’s easier to read?
