Comic’s done. Pressed for time this weekend due to the Virgin Music Festival this afternoon, hence the early update and the lack of huge walls of text. All this of course harkens back to the days of, uh, last year, when men were men and women were women and comics were finished on saturday and took 10 seconds to read. A step backwards? No. More like…time travel!! Exciting! Watch out for nazis coming the other way.
Or maybe I just did a shorter comic than usual.*
All the best,
Rowntree
*almost certainly.

the asteriks ninja always seeks truth in the footnote. 🙂
btw, hooray for space nazis. did you see it? the guys at energia are at it again. this time, ironsky.net.

It took me about ten seconds to get it. When I finally got it, I was amazed. Great strip.
September 7, 2008 at 7:07 pm
*brain melts*
how do you do this?
how?
you’re effing brilliant.
Asterisk ninja????
I’m speechless.
I don’t why, but I’m going to take a chance and say this is my favourite subnormality so far. I love all of them, but I think I love this one a lot more.
September 7, 2008 at 7:34 pm
That was retarded.
September 7, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Great comic. Ignore the troll.
September 7, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Nice work. If only real life were more subnormal. I could go for a world with more asterisks, more pink hair and cheaper onions. Except for the Sphynx. I prefer to be non-eaten.

She’s not even one of the top 100 causes of death, you know. Your odds would be pretty good.
You know, one thing I thought of as a way to prevent monster attacks (to an extent) is to always carry a bottle full of something that tastes absolutely disgusting with you, prominently labeled. Or poison, much more effective, but it’s possible poison doesn’t work on monsters–or that would have been tried centuries ago. Or maybe monsters can detect poison and know not to eat whatever it is–which would work.

It took me at least a minute to recognize the asterisk in-joke for what it was. Great bit of metahumor there. 😀 I love this comic!
September 7, 2008 at 10:39 pm
I love that the Ninja’s not just jumping over the fence to get away. HE’S JUMPING OVER THE FUCKING BUILDING!
September 8, 2008 at 2:29 am
SHE’S A KILLER QUEEN
GUNPOWDER, GELATIN
DYNAMITE WITH A LASOR BEAM
GUARANTEED TO BLOW YOUR MIND
ANYTIME

Blahahaha! That has to be the most randomly awesome I’ve read in a while. Very nice use of the fourth wall & a non sequitur.
I’ll be back next week!
September 8, 2008 at 8:05 am
Bloody hell! After reading the other comments, I didnt even get the asterisk part! That makes it even more awesome! Well played, sir.
September 8, 2008 at 1:00 pm
sweet. Way to bend the fourth wall. Jasper Fforde would approve.
So, to you asterix are shuriken? To Kurt Vonnegut Jr. they were buttholes.
Go figure.
September 8, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Whoah… strikingly little dialogue in this one.
September 8, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Took me a second too, and I would have blown milk out my nose if I’d been drinking it when it clicked. Excellent.
September 9, 2008 at 12:42 am
Hey, I just saw a bit of the Oasis set on YouTube. Was that you?
September 10, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I thought Bonobo Conspiracy was the intellectual web comic, but Subnormality! is like Kafka meets Doestoyevski in comparison. If Tom Robbins and J. D. Salinger collaborated on a web comic, it might be something close to Subnormality! I don’t know if that’s scary or reassuring.
September 11, 2008 at 1:15 pm
i have to admit, it took me a beat to get what they were reading in the last panel.
i love Subnormality. it’s quality.

TEXT
September 12, 2008 at 7:49 pm
What a brilliant idea 😀
And I think that proves the fact that you can do comics without huge text of walls (not that I mind!) and still do wonders.
September 13, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Oh man that’s brilliant!
September 14, 2008 at 1:05 am
Superb comic as usual!
September 16, 2008 at 7:06 am
I’m moving to Japan soon, and I’m wondering where I might score one of those truly useful throwing stars…
September 25, 2008 at 6:02 am
Wasn’t sure what to make of it until I realized it was breaking the fourth wall. Took a while to get it, like everyone else pointed out. But, it was worth it; +10 style points.
Worth a chuckle.
September 30, 2008 at 1:26 am
such an awesome idea and comic. congrats, you are awesome.
December 10, 2008 at 12:29 am
Your mind is beautiful.
April 18, 2009 at 6:30 am
It took me a while to realize, but when I finally got it, oh my god, that was hilarious.
July 24, 2009 at 11:07 am
i really dig your comic and am trying to read them all in one sitting. it may destroy me.
March 18, 2010 at 4:59 pm
took me like 5 times to read and get it….AWESOME !!
April 20, 2010 at 5:45 am
Didn’t see that one coming. Great way to “break the 4th wall”!
I think the ninja made his point.
(And I just made an incredibly lame pun.)
December 6, 2010 at 12:48 am
This is pure genius.
August 28, 2013 at 12:53 am
I looooove this stuff
December 29, 2013 at 10:59 am
The Asterisk Ninja is a beautiful idea.
