And the comic is here, and the walls of text will return, believe you me. My brain is on sabbatical this week, working on some quite intensive text for an upcoming comic, so the mental skeleton crew i was left with decided to do a bit of a silent tale about…well, nothing really.  But hey, at least it’s finished early for once. Anyway, i could find reasons to lengthily apologize for every comic i do so maybe i’ll just shut up now.

With regard to last week’s discussion of criticism (in the comments section), if you have an hour or so here’s a good interview with a learned professor which touches on a few points that are very relevant indeed with regard to why any artist should keep critics close at hand. Avoiding Groupthink is the goal when you’re talking about online forums/comments/discussions/msn chats with your libertarian chainsaw militia pals, but the whole subject of self-justification in general is hugely important and I totally recommend the book on the subject by said professor.  A huge piece of the mental puzzle. If yer got a website and yer not welcoming the critics then yer Doing It Wrong.

Apologies for last week’s no-show, as well as the general lateness of comix recently. I guess I’d phrase it like this: been having some schedule issues the last few weeks. To put it another way, ah’m too goddamn busy lately. Projects and work and the ever-increasing time commitment associated with these illustrated walls of text has kind of annihilated my free time of late. Thus: changes will be taking place. [sound of hurried footsteps and slamming door] NO!! No, come back, they aren’t ominous changes, they’re fuck-everything-except-Subnormality-changes. In order to free up more time for this here comic and what’s left of my sanity, there will be two Drastic and Modern Initiatives, Effective Immediately! Firstly, i’m cutting back on my gig over at Cracked.com, so you won’t be seeing comics over there on a weekly basis anymore. I’ll be doing as many as I can, which might not end up being a lot, but we’ll see. And secondly, the Offical update day for Subnormality will now be Monday night as opposed to Sunday, thus providing me an extra evening to work on these damned things. Monday is the new Sunday, you heard it here first! Let’s get all this unpleasantness behind us now and hold off on mailing those unabomber-style death parcels to good ol’ Mr. Rowntree. Hang on to them, i’m sure i’ll give you cause in due time.

Sorry, i’m having one of Those Weekends and the comic’s Just Not Working Out so there won’t be one this week. I need more sleep i think; not doing too well here. The battle is always Run A Comic For the Sake of Running a Comic vs. Hold Off and Spare The Archives From Substandard Work, and the latter wins every time. One day i’m not gonna have a day job, i’m gonna be comicking full time and i won’t have to be exhausted and fucking compromising all the time and squeezing comics into my free time like dodging raindrops in monsoon season. Goddamn it that’ll be nice. Yeah, so, sorry friends, I’ll do some laundry, buy some groceries, regroup for next week. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience. I take no pride in these occasional Shameful Declarations.
