Subnormality for May 25th

May 25, 2008

Finished this week’s Subnormality. You don’t plan jokes like this–they just kind of happen when you’re standing there waiting for a bus and an eighteen wheeler with giant pictures of ice cream cones on it drives up and stops at a red light ten feet away from you. Oh yeah, and I don’t really have anything against the Ewoks.

Ich Habe Keine Local Appearances

May 23, 2008

Just a quick note for those in the Toronto area: I will not be doing any convention appearances this year. I realize that literally no-one cares, but I felt like typing something so there y’go.  Anyway, those crooks at Hobbystar keep jacking up the price of tables at the august Fan Expo, so the event can now be categorized as Not Fucking Worth It. In addition, the event no longer caters in any meaningful regard to a comic-book audience, which was well-evident at last year’s event when business in the Artist’s Alley plummeted to half of previous years. People came for the video game olympics or whatever the fuck it was, not for the Small Press. Not Fucking Worth It. As for the Paradise Comics show, it suffers from the opposite problem: it’s TOO focused on comics. Mainstream superhero comics, that is, so nobody there wants to look at my indie-comics junk. Plus I don’t ever want to be in the same building as Dave Sim again. And besides, I have no new comics to sell, and besides that I Hate doing conventions. I can’t sit still for that long without going completely mad. It’s exhausting, too, for some reason. Plus the Audience is online anyway. More and more the worlds of webcomics and print comics are the Two Solitudes of sequential art (anticipatory counterpoint: no they aren’t).  Okay, that’s just about enough of that. As you were.

Subnormality for May 18th

May 19, 2008

Ye olde this week’s comic is ye old finished, so ye olde there you go. I know this says Part 1, but don’t expect Part 2 for a while. Just giving myself some options for the future in terms of characters I can revisit. Figured I’d get part 1 out of the way now as it’s a holiday and no-one’s reading anyway. Tomorrow is supposed to be the day off work, but I am working anyway because that’s just the kind of life I lead. I’m totally taking tuesday off though. Oh, below is a link to ye olde aged newspaper version of this week’s comic. This was how I originally wanted it to look, but I ended up needing colors to tell the story so the Super Official Version is the colored one linked above. Personally I’ve always preferred black and white comics above all else. I like lines, and color distracts from the lines. However, color also catches the eye and thus I bend, rainbow-like, to the will of common sense. Anyway, I already have an idea for next week’s comic and it’s gonna be mercifully short for once so Hurrah.

Subnormality for May 11th

May 12, 2008

Happy Mother’s Day to all yer mothers (and to those of you who ARE mothers, and most of all to MY MOM(!!), even though I already called her), and here’s a new comic finally after that one-week vacation that felt more like two days but oh well. I keep planning a comic all week and then scrapping it on friday and thinking of something else at the last minute, so there you go. And that’s My Two Cents. Both of which feature the above figure, even though I live in Canada and they really don’t.  Maybe I’ll just go ahead and stop typing now…

Ain’t No Comic (almost)

May 4, 2008

Sorry, there won’t be a Subnormality comic this week. Busy, tired, etc. Frigging need a week off. Discombobulated. Was working on something, but it was too cynical even by my standards so I scrapped it. Taking a brain vacation. Back in seven days with a new comic. Supposed to have a guest strip somewhere this week, so it won’t be a total loss. More on that later. Cheers.

UPDATE: The guest comic I did can now be seen over at Simulated Comic Product. Have a look! Many thanks to creator Kevin Forbes for the opportunity to dump my crazy, dubious whatever on his fine website.
