Merry Sub-Mas!

December 25, 2007

Yo. I have no internet at my new apartment yet, plus I just took the train to Montreal, so I can’t update the website until January. I can however post the final Subnormality comic of the year here in this blog, so click the little picture above to read my warm, heartfelt Christmas comic. There will not be a comic next weekend, as I’ll still be here in La Belle Provence, but normal service will resume come 2008. Thanks to everyone who’s followed the strip through its first calendar year, and to everyone who’s taken the time to post or email their positive sentiments. I love each and every one of you in a deep, meaningful fashion, and I would like to take this time to ask for your hands in marriage. Well, almost. Let’s all enjoy the holidays, at any rate, and I promise to cook up some more zany shit for next year. Joyeux Noel to all!

New Subnormality Posted

I have posted this week’s comic, and I’ve posted it early–just like in the good old days! It’s a real behemoth, and it took way too long to do for a joke that hinges on… well, you’ll see. I can’t even tell if it makes sense anymore, personally.

IN OTHER NEWS…

I can’t promise a comic next week, because I’m moving to a new apartment and I’m anticipating no end of trouble getting my internet/phone switched over. I’m confident that Bell will do all that they can to screw everything up while simultaneously overcharging me every step of the way. Thus, it’s all too likely that I’ll have no internet access this time next week. In addition, I’m going on vacation for Christmas, so there will definitely not be a comic on Dec. 29th, I’m sorry to say. Here’s hoping that somehow everything works out all right and I have internet access next week. Merry X-Mas, anyway!

Okay, the third and final installment of the thrilling, edge-of-your-seat Letter Opener Trilogy is finally complete. Delays occurred this weekend due to my computer being, as the French say, totally fucked up, but it’s done. As for the computer, I think it’s a RAM issue, but I’ll find out this week. But that’s boring–go read the comic or something. Cheerio!

New…Thing!

Okay, so this is kind of experimental (as opposed to appealing): I call it a “Zoom Gallery,” and you can click here or on the picture there to see it (scroll down once you get there). The name of the game is Image Appreciation, I suppose, for the Zoom Gallery collects various images from my “work” that have been removed from their context and enlarged (or, zoomed in on, hence the name). I sort of stole the idea from a Gary Larson book, though he was never as self-serving as this. Anyway, it’s an idea I had so I cobbled the thing together and threw it online for a laugh. Charity for background art, extreme close-ups, random images… I kind of like it, but who cares what I like.

Review: Captain Estar Goes to Heaven

December 5, 2007

You can go here to read a review of my sketchy “graphic novel” by a guy on a nice-looking website. It’s a good review, in that I agree with most of the conclusions (inconsistent art, bad lettering, etc.). The guy enjoyed it though, which is all that matters to me. If he loved the art but thought I was barren of interesting ideas then I would have to either kill myself or go work for Marvel Comics (same thing, really). So let’s all hear it for people who write positive reviews that bring attention to the attention-less (ie: me).

NEW LINK

Someone else who needs some attention is one Kate Beaton, who makes some hilarious comics that you can read by clicking here or by hitting the new link I’ve added over on the left there. Imagine if Posy Simmonds was 40 years younger and Canadian, and you’ve got the idea. This kid’s got talent, and a bright future. If there’s any justice.

Subnormality canceled this week.

December 2, 2007

Okay, I had to pull the plug. There won’t be a strip this week. I got sick, I tried to finish the comic anyway, I got about 75% of the way there, but I’m sitting here looking at it and it just doesn’t meet the standards I expect of my comics. I’m the first to admit that I’m a big diva and I can’t do my best work under duress, and I pretty much proved that over the weekend by making a shitty, shitty comic while being sick. I mean, what a mess. Just terrible. So I’m just gonna scrap the fucking thing and redraw it for next weekend. I realize that I promised not to skip updates, so expect a double update in the near future to atone for this week’s ridiculous tomfoolery. I apologize, but if I can’t put my best foot forward then I ain’t walking. So look for the exciting conclusion to the Letter Opener Trilogy this coming sunday. Sorry.
